One of the greatest things you can do to learn is take something apart.

Things with moving parts are much more fun to take apart than things with only electronic components.

Here are some suggested things to take apart:

A small gasoline engine (such as from a lawn mower or a weed trimmer)
A wind-up clock
A video cassette recorder (VCR)
An audio cassette player
A hard disk drive
A floppy disk drive
An electric screwdriver
A non-electronic camera
A toaster
A multi-speed bicycle
A washing machine
A turntable (the sort that was used to play stacks of vinyl records)
An electric pencil sharpener
A flatbed scanner
A printer
A water pump
A toy with moving parts, such as a toy robot or a radio control car
